Aurélie, a young restaurant owner, is unhappy because her boyfriend has left her overnight. Desperate with lovesickness, she wanders the streets of Paris trying to forget her pain, but by chance she comes across the novel "The Smile of Women" in a small bookshop, which seems to refer to her restaurant and her life. Intrigued by the book and full of curiosity, she does everything she can to get to know the author Robert Miller.
